THE NIGERIA DIALOGUE GALA NIGHT: ATLANTA, HOUSTON AND MARYLAND
The Nigeria Dialogue gala night is an opportunity for professionals, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and celebrities to enjoy a night of entertainment, networking, fine dining, games and dancing while working to support a worthy cause. The event will raise awareness for Nigeria Dialogue projects and to raise funds to support them.
BACKGROUND TO THE EVENT THEMED: LET US BUILD
Let us build is the cry of a generation that has been denied the opportunity of living in a progressive and developed Nigeria. A country where 70% of the population are below 35 years old and the government doesn’t have a clear plan of harnessing the workforce of the future.
We are indeed a generation forged in the crucible of scarce resources but bound by a collective aspiration to build a nation with unlimited opportunities – a nation in which you can wish upon a star irrespective of who you are; a country where what defines you as a Nigerian is your contribution to our collective experience irrespective of where you come from in the polity. We are the generation that has embraced the diversity of the many parts because we know the sum of the parts is not greater than the whole. We are Nigerians and we are ready to actualise the potentials of our country. We are the generation that will define what the next hundred years of our existence as a nation would be.
Let us Build is a generational call to all well meaning Nigerians “we cannot afford to do ‘nothing’ anymore”. We must break free from this mindset, and do something. We must instead lock ourselves up in the prison of hope, where nothing is impossible, guided by the conviction that justice, truth and growth must prevail in Nigeria, no matter how long it takes. We must hope, and this hope is not blind optimism. It’s not ignoring the enormity of the tasks ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path as we try to reclaim the future of our nation. It’s not sitting on the sidelines or shirking from a fight. This hope is that thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits Nigeria if we have the courage to reach for it and to work and fight for it. This hope is the bedrock of the ‘New Nigeria’. It’s that kind of hope that seizes you, that gives you no other choice but to believe. The kind of hope that unshackles you from the chains of cynicism, pessimism, and the spirit of resignation!
Let us build is a global campaign to engage Nigerian citizens about the state of our country and what we need to do to ensure good governance and frame the key issues we need to address in order to build a developed nation.
SYNOPSIS OF THE PROJECTS WE ARE PLANNING IN NIGERIA FOR 2015
Leadership for Next Generation
This is our work in the community. We intend to visit 25 Cities with higher institutions in Nigeria and host ‘Mega conferences’ attracting 10,000 participants in each conference. This will give us a potential reach of 250,000 Nigerian undergraduates in two years. We will use this platform to teach soft skill, open up job opportunities in the market place, link innovators with venture capitals and encourage participation of first time voters in the process of nation building.
The New School
This is a concerted effort of education enthusiasts to revamp the national Secondary and Tertiary curriculums and position Nigerian students for a global future. This is a joint venture between Nigeria Dialogue, the Ministry of Education and a number of key Stakeholders in the private sector.
The Politics of Issues
This is our audiovisual campaign to frame the important issues for the 2015 elections before the politicians begin to campaign.
